Rosette is one of those characters that I’m not really like, but aspire to be. This costume was a challenge at the time since it was my first competition costume, crafted during my internship semester, and had a lot of new techniques.
I chose blue gabardine for the main material since it is very versatile and I love how it drapes for this kind of costume while not being easy to wrinkle, either. For the top, I used a vintage princess seam pattern and modified the panels a bit, for accuracy. The skirt involved a pattern of my own drafting and was fully lined, both firsts for me. I used a nun costume pattern for the head piece and bib, but I did modify the bib’s collar construction by stuffing it with batting. Katie was a huge help for the bodice, as it was my first time making one and the pattern I chose had to be heavily modified. The bodice is made from khaki twill, fully lined, and closes with a separating zipper in the back. Stockings were purchased from We Love Colors. The boots were a lucky eBay find, and my husband helped me shape and attach the metal bits. He also created the clock necklace prop/accessory from a pocket watch, tealight candle, and other miscellaneous materials. Silas was a huge help with sketching/patterning the sleeve armor pieces for me. They are 2 layers of craft foam, sealed and painted gold, finished with sealant, then glued to the costume. I patterned and constructed the green shoulder guards and hip pouches the night before craftsmanship judging, barely finishing in time.
